Summers are almost here! The days of harsh sun and hot weather that can make your skin dull, acne-prone and sun-damaged when you actually want it to look smooth and radiant to flaunt all the cool summer clothes is coming up very soon. Though we can’t control the weather, we can protect our skin. We bring you a few tips on making your skin summer ready and summer gorgeous.
TIP 1: EXFOLIATE
When you want to reveal smoother skin, exfoliation is the must at that time. It helps to slough off the dead skin that accumulates on the outer layer and makes your skin look dull. You can use home-made scrubs or buy some off-the-shelf ones to exfoliate at home. Once a week should do the trick. Besides keeping your skin soft and smooth, regular exfoliation will help to unclog pores, get rid of sweat and debris and keep your skin squeaky clean all summer.
TIP 2: SWITCH YOUR PRODUCTS
Winters are almost gone and with that, you should bid adieu to your heavy moisturizers, creams, and cosmetics as well. Switch to lightweight lotions and BB creams that hydrate your skin and let your skin breathe. Summer is the time for acne breakouts as well because your oil-glands are on overdrive. So be prepared for that by cleaning your skin regularly with a good oil controlling face wash and by regularly toning it. Ingredients like silicones, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, and squalane are the ones to look out for in your products.
TIP 3: INVEST IN A GOOD SUNSCREEN
A good sunscreen is the best skincare product you can invest in, for summers. The UV radiation causes wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, pigmentation, rough skin, loss of elasticity and a host of other problems as well. A sunscreen with SPF 15 blocks 93% of the harmful UVB rays while an SPF 30 blocks 97%. Post that, the increment in terms of protection is very less. Remember to apply it generously and cover all exposed areas of the skin for full protection. Apply it 30 minutes before stepping out and keep reapplying every 2 -3 hours, as long as you are outdoors.
TIP 4: DRINK WATER
The hot weather can leave you dehydrated resulting in headaches and skin problems. It is therefore advised to increase your water intake in summers to match up to the increased loss due to sweating. This will help maintain the skin’s moisture balance and keep it radiant and glowing.
TIP 5: CARE FOR THE IGNORED AREAS
All the stuffy woolens in winters make us ignore our feet, elbows, and knees. So when one has to wear shorts and sandals in summers, it can get quite embarrassing. Be proactive and shower some care on these parts as well. Soften your feet with regular pedicures and foot creams. Massage some cream on your feet and wear cotton socks before going to bed. Follow this for at least a week till your feet soften.
TIP 6: EAT RIGHT FOR SUMMERS
There are certain foods that help to keep the body cool and minimize the effects of the harmful UVA and UVB radiations on the skin. Seasonal fruits like watermelon, cucumber, etc. are a great way to keep your body hydrated and the skin glowing. Increase your tomato intake as they contain lycopene, which protects the skin from sun damage. Omega 3 fish oil too is a great way to protect the skin from within.
